Medical Weight Loss in Kansas City: A Provider-Led Plan, Not a Prescription
Most weight loss programs aren't programs. They're prescriptions.
A GLP-1 medication shows up at your door from a telehealth app you've never visited in person. Nobody draws your labs. Nobody asks what your sleep looks like or where your hormones are. The pen does what it does — usually, you lose weight — and then a year or two later you stop, and most of it comes back. That's not a plan. That's a hack.
At Eden, medical weight loss is built differently. The medication is a tool. The plan is the work.
What "provider-led" actually means at Eden
I'm Susan Testerman, NP — board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. I run our medical weight loss program in person, at our clinic in the KC Northland. Here's what that means in practice:
You start with labs. Not optional. We need to know what your thyroid is doing, where your fasting insulin sits, what your A1C looks like, and how your hormones are showing up on paper. "Just put me on a GLP-1" without this data is missing the diagnosis.
Your medication choice is matched to your body. GLP-1s like semaglutide and tirzepatide are not the same medication. Side effect profiles differ. Dose escalation differs. We pick what fits you — and we adjust if it isn't working.
You're monitored. We check in regularly. We watch your labs, your weight trajectory, your side effects, and your real life — because if a medication is making you miserable, the plan needs to change.
You have a coach. Ralph Testerman, our Certified Life Coach, supports the emotional and lifestyle side of this work. Most weight loss programs forget that part. We don't.
There's a glide path off. A sustainable plan includes how you'll maintain the result when the medication isn't doing the lifting anymore.
What we're actually treating
If you've been gaining weight despite eating reasonably and moving regularly, it is almost never just a calorie problem. It's usually some combination of hormone shifts (perimenopause, menopause, low testosterone, thyroid), insulin resistance that's been building quietly for years, sleep debt and chronic stress changing how you store fat, and nutrient deficiencies dragging down energy and metabolism.
A medication that suppresses appetite doesn't fix any of those things. It just makes them quieter for a while. The Eden plan addresses the underlying physiology so the result lasts after the medication is no longer doing the work.
Who's a good candidate
Medical weight loss at Eden is appropriate for adults whose health, energy, or quality of life is being affected by their weight, and who are ready to do real work — not just take a shot.
We turn down patients sometimes. If you're looking for a quick 10 pounds before a wedding, this is not the right program. If your relationship with food is in crisis and what you need is a different kind of provider first, we'll say so.
We're a clinic, not a prescription pad.
Beauty starts from the inside. That's not a marketing line — it's how we practice. We build plans, not just sell treatments.
